What can I say, i now have a small collection. I NEVER used them before, but have been recently. Here is my small collection.

This one came from my mom! I love the colors!!

This one came from my mother-in-law, Candy. She made it for me, but I got to pick the fabrics. It is called a mamasan apron, it has long arms and ties in the back. Nice when cooking with foods that “jump” at you.

3 Vintage Aprons

These are the 3 I bought at the Citywide Garage Sale. They have very cute pockets.

Today, Aunt Pat and I drove up to Austin to go to the Citywide Garage Sale. We found some great items.

There was a lady selling vintage table cloths and aprons.

Aunt Pat holding up a cute apron!

Aunt Pat was looking for items that would go in her ranch house. The house is from the late 1800s to early 1900s. She bought a book from the early 1900s. I took a couple of pictures of some of the items we liked.

I purchased an antique postcard because i thought the little boy looked just like Seth! What do you think?

too funny….

We also saw Elvis at the Citywide Garage Sale, look…hehe

Yesterday we went to New Braunfels to visit Seth’s Grandparents…

We had a great time visiting with them and listening to their stories.

While we were there, a huge storm arrived!

It was raining so hard that we got drenched walking to the car (about 7-8 feet away).

Then on our drive home, the rain was coming down in sheets! It was cool. We had to drive about 5-10 mph.

I drove up to Austin this morning to go to the Don’t Shop, Swap event.

There were stacks and stacks of clothes, brought by many. They were sorted into groups (mens pants, womens tops, girls, boys, etc)

I brought some jeans and a tube top i never wore. I picked up a brown paper bag and found some of the most amazing items. See Below…

Clothes for my Ava

Clothes for my Ava

Beautiful dresses

They had a display that said, “Make a T-shirt tote bag!” So I did.

"Make a T-shirt Hand bag

Make a T-shirt Tote Bag

I picked out my shirt. Diane cut off the arms and collar.

Then she sewed the bottom shut and hemmed the arm holes and “collar.”

And There is my T-shirt tote bag!!

They also had someone silk screening images on shirts, so i had her silk screen on my new tote bag.

I love my new t-shirt tote bag, i can’t wait to use it. I might make more t-shirt tote bags!!

They also had a station where you could alter your new garments or put a patch on them!

I wonder why I have NEVER heard of a swap like this before? This makes total sense, bring clothes you don’t want and take items you will use!

So, this weekend is Texas Tax Free Shopping Weekend. It means that you don’t have to pay taxes on clothing!

Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 15, 16 and 17 - the state’s annual tax holiday.

There is a list of Tax Free and Taxed Items on the website mentioned above. Here are some of the items I find funny…

you don’t have to pay tax on:

Belts with attached buckles

Boots - cowboy, hiking

but you do have to pay tax on:

Belt buckles (without belt)

Boots - climbing, fishing, rubber work boots, ski, waders

I am planning on attending the Don’t Shop, Swap in Austin tomorrow.

we’d rather swap than shop. We can make a difference by utilizing what’s already out there and minimize our impact on our already overtaxed planet.

Those that attend can bring their clothes which will then be sorted into various piles of gender and size and variety. In the style of Swap a rama rama, seen at last year’s Maker Faire, we will have sewing machines lined up operated by seamstresses from the community who can help people alter and reconstruct the clothes they find in the piles.

They don’t call it Recycling…its called Upcycling.

Today my grandma called and asked to speak to Ava. I handed the phone to Ava and this is how the conversation went….

I can understand most of her conversation, but i must admit that i know Ava Gibberish.

The doll in the picture is one i made today for Ava, i used this pattern.

Gas is getting cheaper…

I was so excited on our way home from the ranch we stopped in New Braunfels (8 miles from home) to fill up our gas tank. I had to take a picture of the price! It has been a long time since a fill up cost under $40.00.

What is sad is that across the street, the other gas station was $3.59 and barely had any cars there. They were leaving there and lining up at this cheaper gas station.

Fixin’

I forgot to mention this…..While at the ranch, Seth said he was “Fixin’ to go somewhere.” I just about died laughing when he said it. He didn’t even realize he said it. lol

What is funny about it is that he likes to make fun of me all the time and i FINALLY got him!!!

We left Friday for the ranch, it was a beautiful drive into West Texas. Once we got there, we took a ride on a Ranger (its a glorified golf cart with big lug tires to go off road).

Beautiful ranch sunset

We went to a rodeo, it was amazing. They had a relay race, where teams had to pass a baton to the next rider on the next horse. It was pretty funny. They also had to catch a cow, rope 3 of his legs, then get the team back on their horses for the timer to stop! Some of those cows were pretty stubborn.

ouch…

Then they had to rope a cow, keep her standing and milk her. Then the guy who milked the cow had to run to the judge to show there was milk in the bottle!

The cowboy in the green shirt is milking this cow!!

Then the last event was crazy…they had a wild horse in a pen, the team had to saddle the horse, then one of the team mates had to ride the wild horse for at least 8 seconds. It doesn’t look easy…

We did not end up going to the Dance after all. We had a great time at the rodeo. I would definitely go again!
