My attempt at homemade tortillas…

14 Nov

Well, I saw the package of tortilla mix at the mexican market the other day, so i decided to give it a try.  It would totally save us money, so why not? How hard can it be?

I followed the directions that were on the back of the bag.  Easy!

So i made the dough, it was nice and moist.  I separated them into little balls and then the directions told me to put them into a tortilla press!  Whats a tortilla press?  I looked it up online and figured it out.  Then i had to get creative…what can i use to press these balls of dough into tortillas…….Aha!  I figured out that i would press the balls in between two plates covered in plastic wrap…

They sure looked good!  They were really round and a nice thickness too…Now i had to peel them off the plastic wrap (without ripping it) and place into the hot pan.

All of my tortillas ripped in one place or another…but i cooked them anyway…

They turned out pretty good.  I did have to add more salt then the directions. They tasted pretty good too, with a little butter…yummy…

You are aloud to laugh at the funny shapes of my homemade tortillas..

Nadine’s mom makes the BEST homemade tortillas, you should get the lowdown on her technique.

Actually, Nadine’s mom did give me her dough one time, but they came out so thick! She actually does them by hand and not a tortilla press! Yvette said her mom has a tortilla press, i am going to try to borrow it from her.
